April 17, 2020
Starting a brand new year involves a lot of planning and goal-setting for some people. Most people set goals spanning across different areas of their lives including their career and or businesses.
In fact, building a personal brand may be part of your goals this year! In this article, I have created a simple guide to help you build your personal brand in 2020.
Be clear on what your strengths are: One of the things that set a personal brand apart from other brands is the ability of the person to leverage their unique set of strengths. What are you good at? What do you do better than others? Take out some time to find out what it is and hone it. You hone it by learning more, asking questions, and getting better at it.
Find out how you can help: What gap can you fill in your industry? How can you use what you are good at to help others? Basically, how can you leverage your strengths to add value?
Set a mission and vision statement: Your mission is what you set out to do, while your vision is where you see yourself in the future doing what you set out to do. Every brand, just like a personal brand needs a clear mission and vision statement to guide their activities.
Invest in your brand identity: You don’t have to spend so much when starting out but it would do your brand great good if you invest in a website, logo, and your social media platforms.
Create your brand communication plan: Based on your strengths, target audience, and how you intend to add value; you should create a strategy on how you want to communicate with your audience. Your strategy should cover the platforms you would be utilizing.
Have a guide: Your brand guide covers how you show up, how often you do, and what you do when you show up. Your brand guide should cover things like brand tone, colours, and so on.
Offer value: The best way to build a personal brand is to offer consistent value. Remember this.
